On the 18th of January next year, all over the world people will be gathering in the snow to explore, enjoy and experience; it’s World Snow Day and it’s coming to St Anton.
World Snow Day is the second phase of the ‘Bring Children to the Snow’ campaign and has been running since 2012. Five years previously in 2007, we saw the launch of SnowKidz, phase one in the increasingly successful campaign to get more young people involved in snow sports. With over 28 countries involved already, it’s the biggest day on snow all year and is set to continue annually for years to come.
To Infinity and Beyond
Last year’s occasion saw over 600 events take place in 35 countries as the number of individuals involved shot to over half a million! Organisers expect that number to just keep on increasing so make sure you get yourself over to one of the host countries and get you and your kids involved in this epic day of snow.
This isn’t the first time Austria has been involved in the international event; last year saw 28 children from the SOS Children in Imst descend on the popular village of St Anton. The beginners managed to shoosh up and down the mountain with the help of instructors from the Ski School Arlberg whilst the more advanced children tackled the higher slopes. Free lift passes were organised by the Arlberger Bergbahnen and INTERSPORT Arlberg provided free ski and snowboard equipment. Not only that but the children were also treated to lunch at the MooserWirt, snacks at the seitenBlick Restaurant, plus a whole host of other freebies and prizes.
St Anton is once again a fantastic choice to host the returning event. The Tyrolean mountain village with its 2680 inhabitants fulfils the highest demands yet manages to retain much of its originality and traditional charm. With guaranteed snow from the beginning of December to the end of April, 94 lifts in the entire Arlberg area, access to 340km of marked ski runs and 200km of off-piste runs, St Anton is always a popular choice.
