The World Ski Awards took place in Kitzbuhel this week, and the hosts came away with the prize for best Austrian ski resort, something they were extremely proud of. The World Ski Awards, which is the sister organisation of World Travel Awards, currently celebrating its 20th anniversary and often described as "the Oscars of the travel industry", are gaining respect since their launch last year and are surely destined to become ‘the’ prize all resorts, tour operators and properties aspire to win. With categories for Best Ski Resort, Best Ski Hotel and Boutique Hotel, and Best Ski Chalet across a huge range of countries, the nominees were vast and impressive. The overall prize for Best Resort went to Val Thorens, while the Revelstoke in Canada took the World’s Best Ski Chalet prize. Aurelio in Lech did win the overall Boutique Hotel catergory which is great news for Austrian skiing.

Attended by 200 guests it was the place to be this week, and Sion Rapson, managing director of the event said:

“The reaction to this – our inaugural event – has been phenomenal. Hundreds of thousands travel professionals and skiers across the globe have voted for their favourite resorts, chalets and hotels. Tonight’s winners can take enormous pride – they have been voted the finest in class.”

“And what better place to celebrate than right here at A-ROSA Kitzbühel. Home to the legendary Hahnenkamm Race, this historic medieval town is synonymous with ski tourism and one of the world’s most iconic winter sports destinations.”
